~~ Survivors and Caregivers Lunch ~~

While living in San Francisco, Patrick has increased his volunteer involvement in the ovarian cancer nonprofit space, with a specific venture into the OCRA Hope Survivors Teaching Students Program.

This program brings ovarian cancer survivors and caregivers into medical education programs to educate future healthcare providers about ovarian cancer by sharing stories of diagnosis, treatment and survivorship, along with facts about the disease. Medical/healthcare students interact with and learn from ovarian cancer survivors in a classroom setting.

Learn more about this program here: https://ocrahope.org/get-involved/survivors-teaching-students/

In late Q1 of 2020, Patrick will be presenting MaryLynn's diagnosis and treatment story, and will work to refine his presentation in the meantime.

On 1/5/20, Patrick will be hosting a lunch at his apartment to bring together a group of women involved as lecturers in this program who normally meet once per month.

~~ Donation Based Yoga ~~

The MLH Foundation will be partnering with the Salty Dog Yoga studio in Carolina Beach, NC to hold a 100% donation based yoga class, which will be held at Good Hops Brewing. We plan for this to be the first of a continuing series of donation based classes intended to raise funds for the MLH Foundation and raise awareness for the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer in the Carolina Beach community. MaryLynn loved to practice at this studio and made many close friends between other regular yogis and the lovely instructors.

We thank Mandy of the Salty Dog whole-heartedly for agreeing to hold this event for us and taking on this challenge!

Please visit the the Salty Dog for a yoga class at any point on our behalf and be sure to attend this class, if you're in the area and able! And join us for a beer afterwards!

Suggested donation of $10

~~ Pints for a Purpose @ Flytrap Brewing, Downtown Wilmington ~~

Flytrap Brewing will be hosting The Marylynn Hardesty Foundation on 8/26, 1 month prior to the annual Teal Hearts 5K/10K, for their monthly Pints for Prostates event. Flytrap will donate a portion of their beer sales to the foundation and will have a food truck for everyone to enjoy. They are very proud to promote this event and generously host a local nonprofit each month, and we are just as excited to have made this connection.

Members of the foundation will be present at this event to hand out ovarian cancer awareness materials to members of the downtown Wilmington community, as well as talk about the signs/symptoms of the disease. We will discuss how women can educate themselves on risk factors and how they can be their own health advocate in order to detect ovarian cancer at earlier stages.

Please join us in celebrating the life of MaryLynn and promoting disease awareness, as well as having a pint of local Wilmington beer!

~~ The MaryLynn Hardesty Teal Hearts 5K/10K ~~

This is our flagship annual event that now benefits The MLH Foundation. We were very successful with this event in 2019 and can't wait to see what it turns into in years to come!

This race takes place on USATF-certified 5K and 10K courses on Carolina Beach, where MaryLynn and her family spend their most cherished time together.

We hope to have many women and families affected by ovarian and other gynecological cancers in attendance on race day, joining us in our fight towards spreading awareness of the signs and symptoms of gynecological cancers, educating local healthcare providers on early detection strategies, and one day ending these diseases.

We invite EVERYONE to join us, whether you are interested in a fun run/walk or a more serious RFID chip-timed 5K or 10K to prepare for a more serious race. We are well prepared for whatever you want to get out of this experience!

You can run solo or as part of a team. Make it a competitive 5K or 10K, relaxed jog, or fun run with your friends rocking as much teal gear as you can; whatever you desire! We appreciate your involvement, no matter how small or large!

Important locations and times for the run to keep in mind:

  • Same day registration and BIB PICK-UP will begin at 7am at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk Gazebo, located at 1 Carolina Beach Avenue South

  • The 10K will begin at 9am and the 5K will begin at 9:15am

  • The start line will be located just past (west) the corner of Cape Fear Blvd and 3rd Street. We will have volunteers lead runners over to the start line prior to the race. This will be announced after you register!

  • Awards ceremony begins at roughly 10:15-10:20am, depending on finishing times

  • The reception at Veggie Wagon of Carolina Beach begins at 11:30am. Come whenever you like!

~~ The Inaugural Weekend at Woody's Fundraiser ~~

Weekend at Woody's has become our NEW flagship annual event that benefits The MLH Foundation. In 2022, we raised close to $10k and were able to pour these funds back into our local community through giving in-kind donations to the Zimmer Cancer center in Wilmington, NC!
